Last November 4, 2024 I made a visit to the Mother House of the Daughters of Wisdom in Saint Laurent-sur-Sèvre. At this point in time as a Friend of Wisdom a visit to Paris seems incomplete without dropping by the place where the mission of the St. Louis de Montfort blossomed. Coming back after 7 years (I joined the International gathering of the Friends of Wisdom in 2017) I feel reconnected.
Just before the visit I was already contemplating on my journey as a Friend of Wisdom. We in Cebu seems to be in a crossroad of our mission and I as the leader of the group feels concern on the journey we were embarking on. Our direction seems to pivot on a new path different from where I envisioned it to be from the start.
“From the onset we were just following the footsteps of the sisters in Cebu, helping them out in their mission as they continue to form us in the Montfortian spirituality”
In the last 2-3 years the landscape has started to change for us the Friends of Wisdom and as their leader it feels like more is to be done and is asked of me to sync in with the mission. It was this feeling and reflection that lead me back to Saint Laurent.
Grateful for the leading of the spirit and the mission, the visit was truly inspiring. It made me feel rooted and connected again. Witnessing how the lives of the Founders, Blessed Marie Louise and Fr. Louis de Montfort, have touched and inflamed the lives of the sisters in the Mother House through the years was amazing.
And to see how they tirelessly work to keep the mission burning in spite of the challenges and the odds of the modern world was encouraging. These realizations made me owned my membership as a Friend of Wisdom. I too, have a mission to embarked on… not easy, pretty challenging but hopeful that with great faith in the spirit of Wisdom, the teachings of Montfort and the guidance of the sisters we the Friends of Wisdom in Cebu will beautifully blossomed into persons Wisdom would have wanted us to be and living our lives for the glory of God.
I’m really thankful to Sr. Helene Alic for understanding me and taking the effort to make the visit possible in a short notice. For Madame Guylaine Boncourt for picking me up at the train station and for the sisters who were so warm and accommodating, Sr. Jean Enad, Sr. Jeanne Marie du Fiat, Sr. Karuna Xaxa and Sr. Jeanne d’Arc Rabozimena and made the visit memorable. Praying more Friends of Wisdom can visit Saint Laurent.
