DAUGHTERS OF WISDOM, INDIA
Sr Shigi Chacko DW
The former ashram in Kerala, supported by the Daughters of Wisdom in 2012, has been given a facelift. Now a professional organization, respectful of people, is a source of liberation!
From the old to the new ashram
Since taking charge of the home, the Sisters took many initiatives, such as changing the cell-type of life to finally liberate the 26 mentally ill men who were then in Institution. This transformation had very positive effects on them. They behave better, wear clothes, and look after their basic need, which has as effect to bringing them back to normalcy. A total holistic approach to the care pattern with regular medication and with follow up, now bear fruit. These clients are now better socially integrated.
Blessing and recognition
The new Ashram building was blessed on November 4, 2017, by his Grace most Rev. George Njaralakatt. We are indebted to the General team and the Provincial team of the Daughters of Wisdom for the completion of the project. It is a very beautiful, spacious and with fully equipped infrastructure based on the requirements of the psychosocial department of the Government of Kerala.
At present there are 20 inmates between the age of 32 to 96 years old. The Project has a permit to accommodate 30 mentally ill persons. We are open to receive deserving cases from any parts of the country. We are committed to offer better facilities for them during their stay and care for a peaceful death.
All these things are possible with the Lord, to whom we remit our needs for the Ashram. With love and compassion, we also entrust to Him all these wounded persons in our care.
