During our recent visit to Haiti this October, we had the privilege of being present and assisting at the ceremony of Perpetual Profession of four sisters of this Province. On 23rd October, during a Eucharistic Celebration in the Parish of St. Pierre de Pétion-Ville, Sisters Yvette Parisien, Rosalie Millien, Rithanne Alexandre and Rose-Norma Rigaud publically pronounced their vows in the presence of Church representatives, many sisters of the Province, family, friends and other invited guests. Sr. Louise Madore, Superior General, received their vows in the name of the whole Congregation and welcomed them as permanent members.
The ceremony was presided over by Bishop Bernadito Auza, Apostolic Nuncio of Haiti. He rooted his very inspiring homily in our spirituality and in the rich words of our Founders, St. Louis Marie de Montfort and Blessed Marie-Louise of Jesus. Bishop Auza spoke of the importance for religious to be women of prayer and to remain faithful to their charism. The homily concluded with the words of Marie-Louise which echo in the hearts of all Daughters of Wisdom, “If I were a piece of cloth, I would give myself to the poor.”
After the liturgy, all were invited back to the house to share in a joyous reception. Over 150 family and friends joined together, several of whom lingered on to visit and continue the celebration. In the evening, the community gathered in festivity of its own. We shared the evening meal and rejoiced with the Sisters as they opened their gifts and sang in gratitude.
Sisters Yvette, Rosalie, Rithanne and Rose-Norma recently returned from the three month session of preparation for Final Vows held in Madagascar for our sisters of French-speaking entities. Their experience prepared them well for the commitment they have made and for a deeper understanding of the richness of the internationality of our Congregation.
As signs of new life begin to spring forth on this island in the Caribbean after the terrible disaster of last January, the Congregation of the Daughters of Wisdom claims its own vitality in the total gift of self of these four women. May Wisdom continue to inspire them to be her Presence among the people of Haiti and may God continue to bless this nation.
