News from Haiti (4)
Soeur Louise Madore, fdls, Supérieure générale
A new courageous message from Sister Marie-Edwidge helps us again to be more closely in communion with what our dear Haitian Sisters are living. We thank her for regularly giving us the news, despite her heavy workload and many difficulties, that allows us to be present in intense prayer and affection:
"We have returned from Segur barely forty-five minutes ago. We asked Sister Rose-Andree for the truck from Montfort Institute to transport the heavy equipment. We met the truck on the road to Carrefour, probably about nine o’clock. We realized later on that the road congestion would not perhaps allow the truck to make a second trip. So, around 1:30, we boarded the little bus of St. Joseph’s with the second group of older sisters. As for the sisters who are caring for them, we do not know if they remained at Carrefour or if they were able to go to Segur, because we could not reach them. The telephone is not working. All the Sisters of Montfort Institute were present at Segur. They organized the house very well and provided shelter for the night.
We could not find a security company that agrees to give us agents, given that much of the enclosure of Carrefour has fallen. But we found another solution with people that the Brothers of the Sacred Heart offered us. They are being organized to find at least two legal weapons and minimal of equipment to defend themselves.
Yesterday afternoon, while we were reflecting with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart on this issue of security, the sisters came looking for us. A large group of American experts came to investigate to try to find survivors under the rubble of Carrefour. Despite their heavy equipment and the dogs that accompanied them, they unfortunately have not found any trace of human life. Our Sisters have really died ...
The aftershocks continue ... Those of yesterday were felt throughout the country. Today again, it has continued. The Lord is putting us under great strain!
Thank you again, Sister Louise for keeping us in your prayers and your love. Be assured of our own." Sr. Marie-Edwidge, fdls
